CBD stands for cannabidiol, it is the second most prevalent active ingredients of the cannabis plant. Cannabidiols has exploded over the past few years, with a large range of CBD infused products.
Many people are confused over what these products can offer, where as others have taken full advantage of it health benefits and made it part of their daily lives.
Understanding how it works with your body is the most important thing, in this weeks blog we will cover what CBD is and the beneficial effects it can have on you and your body.
Where Does CBD Comes From?
It is a compound extracted from the flower of the Cannabis Sativa L. plant. Concerns over CBD arise from the confusion between Cannabis, Hemp and Marijuana. Hemp and Marijuana are both species of Cannabis, however Marijuana is bred to have high levels of THC- the substance associated with illegal highs. They are extracted from Hemp and contains less than 0.2% THC. This level is considered negligible and cannot produce a ‘high’.
Cannabidiol is an essential component of the medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, which is a cousin of the marijuana.
Our body already has an Endocannabinoid System (ECS), an extremely important molecular system that your body uses to regulate and perform various critical functions.
We now know the endocannabinoid system is involved in a wide variety of processes, including pain, memory, mood, appetite, stress, sleep, metabolism, immune function, and reproductive function. Endocannabinoids are arguably one of the most widespread and versatile signalling molecules known to man.
ECS processes and aids in the absorption of CBD. Consume it and it attaches to the different cell receptors around the body, where the enzymes break it down before being absorbed into the body.
CB1 + CB2 Receptors
CB1 & CB2 receptors help to make up part of the endocannabinoid system. CB1 receptors are primarily found in the brain and the central nervous system whilst CB2 receptors are found mostly in the organs and cells that are associated with the immune system.
When the EDC system is stimulated with cannabinoids, it helps regulate the function of the body such as mood, appetite, sleep, reproduction, immune system and more.
I love my body for everything amazing it can do
What is CBD Used For?
It is known for its health benefits but the strongest evidence is its effectiveness in treating some of the cruelest childhood epilepsy syndromes, such as Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome which don’t typically respond to anti-seizure medication. In numerous studies, it was able to reduce the number of seizures and in some cases it was able to stop them altogether.
FDA (Food & Drug Administration for the USA) headlined recently approving the first CBD-derived medication to treat certain forms of server Epilepsy.
Cannabidiol is most commonly used to help people who suffer with anxiety and insomnia, studies suggest it helps with falling to sleep and staying asleep. It may also help with chronic pain relief, reduce acne, heart health and alleviate cancer related symptoms.
